This was a unique project as, due to unsufficient soil bearing capacity, the whole building and slabs were to be supported by concrete
Twintec USA was called in at the early stage of the project by Campanelli Companies to design a Freeplan-S pile supported slab for the base slab of the future AS/RS freezer and the loading dock slab. These Freeplan-S slabs fully supported on piles (with a span of about 10’ x 10’) were 9” and 10” in thickness, 4,500psi concrete reinforced with 75 lbs /cy of high performance AFT +1/60 steel fibers. The absence of rebar made the whole project much faster and safer.
The top Freeplan-I slab on 60 psi insulation was 8” in thickness, 4,000 psi concrete reinforced with 66 lbs /cy of AFT 1/50 steel fibers.
This 140,000 sq ft, 72’ high AS/RS is dedicated to cold storage. It features 10 aisles, 5 cranes, 25,000 pallet positions and operate in energy-saving lights-out environment.
